What the Water Levels Are Telling Us
As of 10:10 p.m. on Monday, the water level at Pilseung Bridge β the northernmost monitoring point on the Imjin River within South Korean territory β stood at 79 centimeters. That number matters because the threshold for triggering an evacuation order for visitors in the river area is 1 meter. So as of that reading, authorities were watching closely but had not yet reached the point of ordering people out.
The ministry stated it would continue analyzing satellite data and tracking water levels at Pilseung Bridge to ensure the safety of residents in the area. The Yeoncheon county region, roughly 60 kilometers north of Seoul, is the zone most directly affected when water surges downstream from the North.
A Structural Problem Without a Clear Fix
